Our Community:
Congregation Shaareth Israel is a vibrant center of Jewish life, which recognizes our rich heritage as a Jewish Community, and strives to maintain and enrich Jewish life on the South Plains through meaningful educational, spiritual, social, cultural and worship experiences.
About Us:
Founded in 1934, Shaareth Israel Congregation is affiliated with the Reform Movement, the Union of Reform Judaism (URJ), though our members steam from diverse backgrounds. We’ve approximately 80 memberships, roughly 100 people who gather in community, in a city of 225,000. We welcome Shabbat, the Sabbath, each Friday evening with prayer and onegs, join together in monthly communal Shabbat dinners, have an active religious school with classes for both children and adults from pre-school upwards, mark Jewish Holidays, as well as all the Jewish cycles of life, from the welcoming of new-born children, bar/t mitzvah, confirmation, through illness and burials in our cemetery.
Come for a visit:
As Congregation Shaareth Israel is the only synagogue in Lubbock we’ve many in our community who wish to visit a Friday evening Shabbat (Sabbath) service to experience Jewish worship and to see our synagogue. Please see Visiting Us for more information about visiting and to arrange a visit.
